A triangle of shallow turquoise water closed off by fifteen sand islets, reckoned by people who have seen every lagoon in the Pacific to be the finest of them. You cross it in a flat-bottomed boat because in many places you can stand up; on One Foot Island a post office the size of a hut will stamp your passport. Behind it the main island is hilly and planted with bananas.
