Thirty halls cut into the rock of a horseshoe gorge, abandoned for a thousand years and stumbled upon by a British officer hunting tigers. Inside are the best-preserved Buddhist paintings of ancient India: princes, dancers, elephants and the previous lives of the Buddha, painted between the 2nd century BC and the 6th AD. You see them in near darkness, and that is part of the spell.
