The most photographed beach in the Indian Ocean, and for once you understand why on arrival: house-sized boulders of pink granite worn smooth by the sea, set on blinding white sand with water knee-deep for hundreds of paces. You cycle in through the L'Union Estate plantation, and it is worth timing for late afternoon, when the light comes in low between the rocks.
