Six tiers of wall five metres thick planted on the headland at the mouth of San Juan Bay, raised by the Spanish over two centuries and never taken from the sea. The domed sentry boxes leaning out over the ocean have become the island's emblem. On Sundays the great lawn in front of the fort fills with kites.
