You enter stooping through the Door of Humility, barely a metre high, walled down to stop horsemen riding in. Inside, beneath the altar, a fourteen-pointed silver star marks the spot where tradition places the birth of Jesus. It is the oldest Christian church still in use, with columns and floor mosaics from the 4th and 6th centuries.
