A ribbon of sand, in places only four hundred metres wide, separating the lagoon from the Baltic for nearly a hundred kilometres, held in place by pines planted by hand after the dunes had buried whole villages. From the Parnidis dune you see water on both sides. Nida, with its blue and red fishermen's cottages and wooden grave markers, is where to stop.
