A basalt wall five kilometres long and over a thousand metres high, one of the great escarpments anywhere, with the Tugela dropping off it in a series of falls totalling nearly nine hundred metres. The path up from the Sentinel finishes on two chain ladders hanging in open air and comes out on the plateau, where the river slides quietly over grass before going over the edge.
