The oldest museum in the world devoted to ancient Egypt and, in importance, second only to Cairo's: forty thousand objects, six thousand on show. The core arrived in 1824 with the Drovetti collection, bought by Charles Felix. The piece nobody expects is the intact tomb of Kha and Merit, an architect and his wife, with the whole burial kit inside: beds, clothes, food.
