Circular enclosures of five-metre T-shaped pillars carved with foxes, scorpions, boars and vultures, raised eleven thousand years ago by people who had no farming, no pottery and no wheel. It predates Stonehenge by seven millennia and has forced a rewrite of the sequence: perhaps the temple created the village rather than the other way round. A modern canopy shelters the dig, most of which is still buried.
