An isolated hill seventy metres above Balzers, settled since the Bronze Age and fortified in the Middle Ages, now topped by a castle rebuilt in the early 20th century and owned by the state. Unlike Vaduz this one is open: courtyard, the chapel of St Donatus and a rose garden on the terraces, with concerts and theatre in the yard through the summer. From up here you command the whole Rhine valley floor, which is exactly why it is here.
