Three million objects spread across five buildings on the Neva, chief among them the tsars' Winter Palace. Two Leonardos, twenty-four Rembrandts, the largest Matisse holdings outside France, and staircases of malachite and gold that would justify the ticket on their own. Spend one minute on each item and you would be there eleven years.
