A sixteenth-century trading port left almost intact because the river silted up and the trade moved elsewhere. Mustard-yellow wooden shophouses, Chinese assembly halls, a Japanese covered bridge from 1593, and tailors who will cut you a suit in a day. In the evening the electric lights go off and the streets are lit by silk lanterns alone, with paper ones floating away down the Thu Bồn.
