In the ground-floor Assembly Room of this plain Georgian building the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. The furnishings have been restored to how they stood, down to the delegates' chairs and the silver inkstand used for the signatures. Across the street, under a glass pavilion, hangs the Liberty Bell with its famous crack.
