Twenty thousand square kilometres of floodplain, sandstone escarpment and waterfall, continuously inhabited for sixty-five thousand years: the shelters at Ubirr and Nourlangie hold rock paintings layered over tens of millennia, including X-ray figures showing the bones inside the fish. There are saltwater crocodiles in the water, and that is not a figure of speech. Go in the dry season.
