A Greek and Roman city perched on a bluff above Episkopi Bay, wrecked by an earthquake in AD 365 and dug out from the 1930s onwards. The theatre cut into the slope looks straight out to sea and still hosts summer performances; nearby the House of Eustolios keeps mosaic floors, including a figure of Creation, and a bath suite with its hypocaust intact. The sanctuary of Apollo Hylates lies two kilometres along the road.
