Built in 1891 to house the Habsburg collections, it is the museum where you see most clearly what one dynasty bought over four centuries. It holds the world's largest gathering of Bruegel the Elder — twelve panels, among them The Hunters in the Snow and The Tower of Babel. The staircase carries lunettes painted by a young Gustav Klimt.
