A volcanic caldera filled with water at sixteen hundred metres, closed off by three near-perfect cones rising from the southern shore. A dozen Tz'utujil and Kaqchikel Maya villages ring it, reachable only by boat, each with its own weaving and its own market. Aldous Huxley called it the most beautiful lake in the world, and he was not a generous man.
