One of the oldest lakes on earth — between two and three million years — and isolated long enough to have evolved two hundred species found nowhere else, including a trout that has always been fished here. The water is clear for twenty metres, and the Macedonian shore alternates shingle beaches, monasteries and the road to Sveti Naum, where underground springs well up through the lakebed.
