One of very few volcanoes anywhere you can drive to the crater rim and look straight down into a churning lava lake. The Spanish called it the Mouth of Hell and planted a cross above it to exorcise the thing — the cross is still there. Come after dark, when the red of the magma lights up the gas column from below.
