A glacier-cut fjord where the walls drop twelve hundred metres straight into black water and the waterfalls — Stirling, Lady Bowen — come down vertically from above. It rains more than two hundred days a year, which is when it looks best: temporary falls break out of every crack in the rock. Seals and dolphins follow the boats, and the drive in on the Milford Road is half the trip.
