An extinct volcano sixteen kilometres from the equator that still carries glaciers, and which the Kikuyu regard as the dwelling of God. The two highest summits, Batian and Nelion, are technical rock; walkers aim for Point Lenana at 4,985 metres, crossing valleys full of giant groundsels that look borrowed from another planet. Quieter than Kilimanjaro and, many say, better looking.
