The mountain that closes the southern end of Lake Lucerne, wrapped in dragon legends and a story that Pontius Pilate lies buried here. The world's steepest cogwheel railway climbs from Alpnachstad at gradients of up to 48 per cent, and cable cars drop down the far side to Kriens — the classic Golden Round Trip. Ridge paths at the top look out over seventy-three Alpine summits.
