A mound 85 metres across, raised around 3200 BC — five centuries before the pyramids at Giza — with a nineteen-metre passage leading to a corbelled chamber that has stayed dry for five thousand years. A slot above the entrance is aligned so precisely that at the winter solstice sunrise the beam reaches the back wall for seventeen minutes. Kerbstones around the base are carved with spirals and lozenges nobody can read.
