Limestone layered in thin, regular sheets like stacks of pancakes, eroded by the sea into towers and arches along the wild West Coast. At high tide in a big swell the water forces in beneath the rock and blasts out of the blowholes with a boom, tens of metres into the air. The loop path takes twenty minutes and threads through New Zealand flax.
