The largest natural asphalt deposit on earth: forty hectares of bitumen renewing itself from below, firm enough to walk on and live enough to swallow whatever settles on it. Walter Raleigh caulked his ships with it in 1595 and it has been quarried ever since without running out. Locals bathe in the rainwater pools on its surface for the minerals.
