Sixty-five metres high with a base as wide as the Great Pyramid of Giza, this is the third-largest pyramid on earth, raised around 100 AD over a natural cave the builders held sacred. Its 248 steps lead to a platform taking in the whole valley and the alignment of the Avenue of the Dead. Originally the whole surface was plastered and painted red.
