Not the tallest waterfall in Europe but by far the most powerful: 150 metres wide, 23 metres high, and loudest in early summer when the Alpine snowmelt arrives. Boats run out to the rock in the middle of the torrent, where a stairway lets you climb into the spray. Walkways from Laufen Castle bring you right to the lip of the drop.
