During the siege of Sarajevo, eight hundred metres of hand-dug tunnel beneath the airport runway were the city's only way out — food, weapons, the wounded and the president all passed through it. Twenty-five low, narrow metres survive under the Kolar family house, still pocked with bullet holes. The museum around it tells the story of 1,425 days under fire.
