A Polish count built it as a birthday present for his Greek wife, and did not think small: two hundred hectares of romantic parkland with artificial waterfalls, grottoes, an underground river you row through in the dark, and granite boulders hauled here by oxen. The names all come from Homer, because the landscape was meant to remind Sofia of the Greece she had left. It remains one of the finest landscape gardens in Eastern Europe.
