A disused power station on the south bank of the Thames, reopened in 2000 as a museum of modern art. The Turbine Hall — a hundred and fifty-five metres long and thirty-five high — was deliberately left empty: each year an artist fills it with a work made for that space, and they are the most-visited installations in the world.
