The capital of a civilisation that ruled the Andean altiplano centuries before the Incas, ninety minutes from La Paz. What survives is the truncated pyramid of Akapana, the sunken temple with carved stone heads set into its walls, and above all the Gate of the Sun โ a single andesite block cut with a staff-bearing figure. The joints between the megaliths are tight enough to have fed legends for centuries.
