A six-kilometre canyon in Kamchatka where ninety geysers and hundreds of boiling springs blast steam between walls stained by heat-loving algae. It is the second largest geyser field on earth, and the only way in is by helicopter: there are no roads. Brown bears wander among the steaming pools as if nothing were happening.
