A red tobacco plain studded with mogotes — limestone hills with sheer sides and rounded tops, left over from a collapsed plateau. Farmers still work with oxen and cure the leaf in palm-thatched barns you can walk into to watch a cigar being rolled. The caves beneath the mogotes are crossed by boat.
