A mountain that revealed itself: until a few years ago this ridge lay under ice, and as the ice retreated it exposed bands of red, gold, green and turquoise — mineral layers stacked up by geology. The summit sits at 5,036 m, about three hours on foot from the pass above Cusipata, and the altitude is no joke. Oddly, the colours read better under cloud than in full midday sun.
