The Temple of Dawn sits across the river from the palace, its seventy-nine-metre spire clad in fragments of Chinese porcelain — ballast from trading ships, set into the stucco by hand. Very steep stairs climb halfway up the tower, with Bangkok and the Chao Phraya all around. The name says dawn, but the light is best at sunset, seen from the opposite bank.
