A village rebuilt along the river Zaan from green timber houses, warehouses and industrial windmills rescued from demolition and moved here piece by piece in the 1960s. The mills genuinely work: one grinds pigment for artists' paint, another presses seed oil, a third saws logs with a wind-driven blade. A cheese farm and a clog workshop fill out the visit, and walking into the site is free.
